Access Hearing Centre is committed to protecting your hearing. Regular hearing tests are an important part of caring for your health. Read a few frequently asked questions below and give us a call to discuss your hearing questions and concerns with our staff.

Why should I get my hearing checked?

The importance of your hearing cannot be overstated. Losing your hearing can disconnect you from friends, family, your career and safety. Many family doctors don’t screen your hearing, but at Access Hearing Centre, we make hearing exams fast and efficient.

You should have your hearing screened if you’re 50 years or older, if you’ve had consistent exposure to loud noise through work or recreation, or if you exhibit symptoms of hearing loss.

What are the symptoms of hearing loss?

Hearing impediments can develop gradually or affect you immediately. There are some common symptoms that you should be on the lookout for. Contact Access Hearing Centre if you notice any of the following:

•     Do people seem to mumble, speak softer than usual or don’t speak clearly?

•     Do you frequently ask people to repeat themselves?

•     Do you have trouble following group discussions in crowded situations?

•     When having a conversation do background noises bother you?

•     Do you often turn up the volume on your music or television?

•     Do you have trouble hearing the phone ring or doorbell?

    Has a friend or loved one mentioned you may have trouble hearing?

What should I do before my hearing test?

Before your hearing test, you should tell your clinician if you’ve recently been exposed to any loud noises or anything that made your ears sting. Try to avoid loud noises for at least 16 hours before your hearing test. Let us know if you’re taking any medications, as some can impair your hearing. Of course, we’ll speak with you to determine if you’ve had any trouble following conversations, but be sure to tell us if you’ve had a cold or ear infection recently.
